General Therapy

Our range of Early Intervention Services is designed to involve the whole family to incorporate specific strategies to:

  • develop new and build on existing skills and promote generalisation
  • address children’s individual needs by preparing specific programs via assessment tools and consultation with parents
  • adopt and apply functional communication  and social techniques
  • incorporate and supply visuals with parent training
  • support children in their transition from the preschool classroom with visual support to assist them and the teachers
  • in-home and clinic consultations targeting specific behaviours and addresses the causes

Developmental and social learning interventions – builds relationship, developmental and social / emotional recognition and skills.  This can be done via group or individual learning for children.  Group sessions can accommodate siblings if required and we do encourage a mix of typically developing and ASD children when possible.  Group Sessions focus on activities, playing together and following instructions whilst learning new skills in a fun environment.

Therapy based interventions - individual Sessions focus on specific areas of concern again in a fun environment encouraging a love of learning.

We have a huge range of resources available so there is always something new to keep the children interested and involved.  We encourage a mix of group and individual learning where appropriate and recommend at least quarterly review sessions to establish progress and issues or concerns as well as resetting of goals for each child’s program.

Family-based interventions – focus on the family unit, stress relief, parent methods and communication.  It may involve talking through problems, learning new skills and may be on an individual, group or seminar basis.  We run regular parent / carer training sessions on a variety of subjects or can tailor make a program for each family.

We involve the whole family in our services and siblings are welcome – just ask our staff for more details.

  • reduce and manage stress by giving you strategies and opportunities to share with others

Variety of methods – in most sessions a variety of methods will be used to ensure we are targeting the individual needs of each child rather than following a rigid program which may not suit your child’s needs or that of the family.  We use the most up to date methods from the USA and are constantly updating our training and knowledge to ensure the best outcomes for your family.  In our opinion ABA is becoming outdated and we can show you a better way using behaviour techniques, play based therapy, visual resources all individually developed from the goals you, as a family set.

We also have a range of home therapy packs for parents / carers to use which can drastically increase the hours of therapy your child receives and improve your relationship and understanding.

Professional Counselling – We offer a wide range of counselling services by qualified people experienced in Autism and dealing with the special needs and challenges faced by families affected by Autism. We also realise that families find it difficult to come to appointments particular for the parents so we offer counselling via email and skype.

Playgroup – We offer playgroup in conjunction with Playgroup Australia for any parent that is concerned their child is displaying autistic tendancies.  Siblings are welcome.  This has been a very successful program for us as parents appreciate and can tap into our other resources.  At present our playgroup is run on Friday mornings.

Support Groups – Talk with someone who walks in your shoes – other parents can be a great resource and comfort.  Networking with other families affected by Autism can be a liberating and fun experience.

Fathers Groups – Dads often get left out of the loop and feel isolated from their wives and children as the needs of the family increase.  Fathers groups are a great way to openly discuss your experiences and concerns in an understanding and safe environment.

Visual Resources – Social stories, schedules, request books, school passports and other visual aides are something we specialise in.  You can request your own, use our standard resources and we can work with other professionals including schools to accommodate your needs.  There is more information under our resource section of this web-site.

Toy and Information Library – We have an extensive toy and information library available to parents – we also work together with Autism West to ensure parents in Western Australia have the best and latest resources available.

School Holiday Programs – It is important that your child continues their development during their time away from school and access other autism therapies – we always have a wide range of school holiday programs and activities available.

School Age Children – There are very little services available for school age children that are affordable and deal with the daily challenges and social skills that autistic children face.  We have a range of intensive and casual programs available for 7-18 year olds.

Home Therapy Packs – Research shows that your child should have 20-40 hours of therapy each week.  The cost of this is prohibitive and we have developed a number of home therapy packs which come with parent training where you can increase the hours of therapy by getting involved and doing it yourself.  These packs can be sent to anywhere (postage costs are added to normal fees depending on location).

Parent Training – Autism can be a confusing and difficult thing to deal with for any family.  We offer a wide range of parent training services individually or in group sessions.  We deal with the concepts involved in Autism, how you can help set up your home to assist your child, how you can help the professionals get the best results for your child, information on different therapies available and topical issues such as toilet training and behavioural management.

Behavioural Plans – You may be dealing with a lot of challenging behaviours.  We believe that by analysising the triggers and frustrations experienced by your child and managing those issues that their behaviour can be modified and new more appropriate behaviours are encouraged with a gentle approach and lots of praise.  We can develop a plan for you or train you to be able to do this yourself.
